Malawi Industry and Trade Minister Hon. Henry Mussa Visits CGGC International

On January 11, 2018, Hon. Henry Mussa, Malawi Industry, Trade and Tourism Minister, visited the headquarters of CGGC International in Beijing in the company of Wang Shiting, Chinese Ambassador to Malawi. Lyu Zexiang, General Manager of CGGC International and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, warmly received the delegation.

Lyu Zexiang introduced to Minister Mussa CGGC’s history, Persified business sectors and remarkable achievements made in such fields as global engineering contracting and investment in recent years in details. He noted that, as a transnational business group focusing on both international engineering contracting and overseas investment, CGGC has ranked the 5th in terms of international contract amount in the latest list of over 4,300 “going global” enterprises in China announced by the Ministry of Commerce in 2017, accounting for about 7% of that of all the “going global” enterprises in China, especially the international thermal power project contract amount which accounts for about 30% of that of all the “going global” enterprises in China. Meanwhile, Lyu Zexiang detailed the progress and further promote plan of Kam’mwamba Coal-Fired Power Plant Project. He noted that the investment, construction and operation of the Project will be promoted in an integrated manner, and that the Project is expected to be comprehensively commenced in early 2018. Lyu Zexiang noted that CGGC is willing to establish in-depth cooperation with the Government of Malawi, give full play to the advantages of integrated and full industry chain, continuously participate in the construction and investment of power, transportation and other infrastructure construction fields in Malawi, and benefit more Malawi residents.

Minister Mussa highly praised the powerful technical strength and strong investment and financing capacities of CGGC. He noted that he had deeper understanding on CGGC’s powerful strength in the engineering fields worldwide after visiting the giant and world-famous Three Gorges Project. As for the Kam’mwamba Coal-Fired Power Plant Project, Minister Mussa noted that they will proactively collaborate with various governmental departments to continuously lend support for the Project to ensure that the Project can be completed and put into production as early as possible. He also noted that the Government of Malawi encourages CGGC to comprehensively and deeply participate in social and economic construction and investment in more fields to make contributions to the improvement of Malawi people’s livelihood.

Ambassador Wang Shiting noted that, as a leading enterprise in implementing the “Belt and Road” Initiative, CGGC shall give full play to the leading and demonstration role, proactively perform responsibilities and obligations as a central enterprise, make more contributions to the social and economic development of Malawi, and accelerate the inheritance and development of the long-standing friendship between Malawi and China.
