Niger Prime Minister Brigi Rafini Inspects Kandadji Hydropower Station

On October 11, the delegation led by Niger Prime Minister Brigi Rafini inspected the Kandadji Hydropower Station Project in Niger undertaken by CGGC in the company of Chen Liwen, Charged 'affaires of Chinese Embassy in Niger, and manager of CGGC Niger Branch.

Niger Prime Minister Inspects the Site

The delegation visited the construction site of the Kandadji Hydropower Station Project and debriefed on the reports of the project owner and manager of CGGC about the progress of the project implementation. He fully affirmed the orderly construction site and excellent project quality, and highly evaluated the excellent project management and construction capacity of CGGC. He noted that the Kandadji Hydropower Station Project is the “Three Gorges Project” in Niger and has attracted much attention from all walks of life since its commencement. CGGC is the global leaders in the field of hydropower construction that can effectively promote the smooth implementation of the Project thanks to its scientific planning and meticulous organization, excellent construction quality and efficient performance schedule.

With regard to the progress of future projects, His Excellency Prime Minister noted that all Niger governmental departments will leverage support in such aspects as payment, taxation and security. The owner and relevant ministries and commissions will keep following various projects and make every effort to give necessary assistance, thus putting the Kandadji Hydropower Station into production in advance to benefit local people.

Located in Ayorou Region in downstream of the Niger River that is 180km to Niger’s capital Niamey, the Kandadji Hydropower Station integrates the irrigation and power generation with the installed capacity of 130MW. Reputed as the “Three Gorges Project” in Niger and being the key project under Niger’s Century Plan, the Project has the annual power generation capacity of 617,000,000 kWh, dam storage capacity of 1.6 billion cubic meters, farmland irrigation capacity of about 146,000ha, and forest irrigation capacity 621,000ha after completion, playing important role in supplying power, domestic water, farmland irrigation water to people in the capital and poverty alleviation. Since the Project is commenced, CGGC has proactively fulfilled its social responsibilities as a central enterprise, and jointly held a donation of environmental sanitation equipment for the city of Tillaberi with the Chinese Embassy in Niger, thus establishing a good brand image. At the peak of the Project, 2,000 jobs were created, with a large number of professional and technical workers trained for Niger, which promotes the all-round development of local material and equipment suppliers, effectively accelerates economic exchanges, mutual benefits and mutual assistance between the two countries, and further deepens the friendship between the Chinese and Niger people.

Among the attendees were 18 cabinet ministers including Niger Prime Minister’s Office Director Soulay, as well as 150 other personnel including General Manager of Kandadji Hydropower Company, manager of CGGC’s Section I of Kandadji Hydropower Station Project, and local residents.
