River Closure of EDEVU Hydropower Project in Papua New Guinea Completed

On October 14, the EDEVU Hydropower Project in Papua New Guinea (EDEVU HPP) successfully completed its river closure, marking that it will soon enter the vital node of dam body construction. Among the attendees were Liu Linlin, Chinese Commercial Counsellor in Papua New Guinea, Minister of Energy, Minister of Communications, Minister of Fisheries and Vice Governor of the Central Provincial Government of Papua New Guinea, as well as Chairman of China Guodian Corporation.

Scene of Activity

EDEVU HPP is located in KAREMA Town along the BROWN River in Central Province of Papua New Guinea, and comprises 2 x Francis type water turbine-generator units with the total installed capacity of 51MW. It is the largest hydropower station in Papua New Guinea in terms of investment and installed capacity among the completed and in-progress hydropower stations. The first and second units are planned to be put into production by the end of April and May 2021 respectively.
