On November 14, the signing ceremony for the EPC contract of 150MIGD Umm Al Quwain - Independent Water Project was held in Abu Dhabi, capital of UAE. Chen Xiaohua, Party Secretary and Chairman of CGGC, and Mohammed Abunayyan, Chairman of the Board of ACWA Power, attended the signing ceremony.

The signing of the project, as one of the global top 5 seawater desalination projects and one of the largest seawater desalination projects undertaken by Chinese enterprises in the world, represents an important achievement of CGGC in practicing the idea of green development, strengthening international multilateral cooperation and promoting the implementation of "UAE Water Security Strategy 2036" and high-quality development of the "Belt and Road" Initiative.

The project is located in Umm Al Quwain, UAE, about 60 kilometers north of Dubai, with the construction period of 33 months. CGGC International and French company SIDEM will form a consortium to undertake the EPC project. The successful signing of the project has set a model for multilateral friendly cooperation of Chinese, Saudi Arabian and French enterprises in such fields as technology, fund and construction.

UAE is among the first to participate in the "Belt and Road" Initiative. It is also an "important pivot" for the development of the "Belt and Road" Initiative. As an important people's livelihood project of the UAE government, the project makes full use of local rich seawater resources, adopts advanced Reverse Osmosis sea water desalination technology, and provides 680,000 tons of clean drinking water for millions of residents in UAE. Technically speaking, the project can reduce 20% of power consumption compared with common seawater desalination projects, thus being a world leading energy conservation and environmental protection project. Now all preparations for the start of the project have been launched comprehensively. The project is planned to be started in full swing this month.

After the signing ceremony, Chen Xiaohua held talks with Mohammed Abunayyan, Chairman of the Board of ACWA Power. Chen Xiaohua noted that CGGC and ACWA Power have established close strategic partnership through the cooperation in multiple projects since the signing of strategic cooperation agreement in June 2018. He hopes that CGGC and ACWA Power can deepen their cooperation in the fields of new energy, seawater desalination and combined cycle power stations across the world by means of EPC and equity investment, and achieve common development. CGGC will mobilize superior resources and strengthen the performance supervision of the project to ensure that the project can be delivered in time with high quality. Mohammed Abunayyan appreciated the practical cooperation between both parties. He said that he is fully confident in the advancement of the UAE Umm Al Quwain - Independent Water Project. He hopes that ACWA Power and CGGC can continue to deepen their practical cooperation, explore new modes of cooperation and achieve win-win cooperation and mutual benefits.

During the stay in UAE, Chen Xiaohua also listened to the report on the group's business operation in the Middle East market, and analyzed current opportunities and challenges. He said, we should make overall planning for the market very well and integrate superior resources to achieve rolling development of the Middle East market.

Rajit Nanda, CIO of ACWA Power, Feng Bo, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, and Xu Gang, Office Director of CGGC, Chen Xiangdong, Deputy General Manager of CGGC International, and related personnel from the International Department V, International Department IV and Dubai Branch attended the above activities.
