CGGC Signs EPC Contract for Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project in Pakistan

Recently, CGGC and Water & Power Development Authority of Pakistan signed the EPC Contract for Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project in Lahore, Pakistan. Muzamel Hussain, Chairman of WAPDA, Feng Xinglong, Party Committee Secretary and President of CGGC No. 3 Engineering Co., Ltd., and Ma Yingying, Deputy General Manager of CGGC International, attended the contract signing ceremony. The successful signing of the EPC contract for the Project marks another breakthrough made by CGGC in energy cooperation in Pakistan, which will further accelerate the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and open up a new chapter for the friendship between China and Pakistan.

Located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan, the Project is a flagship project funded by the Government of Pakistani government with the total installed capacity of 800MW and is installed with 4 x 200MW mixed-flow units. The Project mainly involves construction of access roads and the owner’s camp, dams and ancillary works, irrigation facilities and ancillary works, as well as the design, provision and installation of electromechanical equipment and hydraulic metal structures.

Designed with such integrated functions as flood control, power generation, irrigation and water supply, the Project will create 6,000 jobs for Pakistan in peak time. After all units are put into operation, the Project will generate 2.862 billion kWh of power, irrigate 16,700ha more lands, provide local residents 140 million cubic meter of drinking water and create the economic benefit of RMB 2.58 billion annually. The Project is of great significance for mitigating flood disaster, alleviating power shortage in Pakistan, and improving food security and local people’s livelihood.

On March 7, 2019, CGGC successfully won the bid for the Project, the key water and energy project in Pakistan, through international public bidding in cooperation with local partners for their excellent performance, perfect technical scheme and competitive quotation. The Project represents CGGC’s achievement in exploring Pakistan market by taking the opportunities of the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and is an important project for CGGC International to strengthen cooperation with multinational enterprises in developing overseas markets. Since entering the Pakistani market, CGGC has given full play to its professional advantages as the leader in hydropower sector, and has successively undertaken many large-scale water conservancy and hydropower projects with important status in Pakistan, such as N-J Hydropower Project, KAROT Hydropower Project, DASU Hydropower Project, and SK Hydropower Project, playing an important leading and exemplary role in promoting the construction of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
