On February 17, CGGC successfully signed a contract worth 500 million US dollars (RMB3.5 billion) for Uganda's 500 MW PV Power Project, marking an important achievement of CGGC in implementing the concept of green development, promoting the coordinated "going global" of China's new energy industry, and driving the transformation of global energy structure and sustainable development.

During the critical period of "epidemic control, production protection and stable operation", CGGC has strengthened its corporate responsibility, taken the initiative, innovated its working method, and adhered to the principle of “attaching equal importance to prevention and control of the epidemic on the one hand, resume work and production on the other hand”, planned carefully to promote the development of its overseas market in a scientific and orderly manner.

Project rendering

The main content of the contracted project is to build a PV power station with a total installed capacity of about 500MW and supporting power transmission and distribution facilities in the provinces of Moroto and Libbi in Uganda by stages. As the EPC Contractor, CGGC International will be responsible for the package work of project design, procurement, construction and commissioning.

The key to the “Belt and Road” Initiative is to conduct work through extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. At present, the global new energy market is developing rapidly, however, there is still no overall development plan in some less developed countries and regions. Unlike the traditional EPC or EPC+ F mode, CGGC International successfully signed the project in a "joint development + EPC + F" mode for the first time. In this project, CGGC International will give full play to the professional platform and resource integration advantages of the New Energy International Investment Alliance, introduce professional early-stage development partners to provide technical and financial support, cooperate with the owner to complete preliminary development of the project, and push the implementation of the project contract.

Uganda is located in eastern Africa with rich natural resources and huge economic potential. It is an active participant in the “Belt and Road” Initiative. In recent years, the Ugandan government has actively pursued the policy of good neighborliness and friendship, and its internal political situation has gradually become stable. At the same time, it has promulgated a number of policies to attract business and investment; the business environment in Uganda has improved year by year, attracting many Chinese investors and builders, and the level of bilateral economic and trade cooperation between China and Uganda has been constantly improved.

The signing of this project is an important demonstration for CGGC International to establish its foothold in China, go global, and implement the “Belt and Road” Initiative with practical actions. It is also a typical representative of Chinese enterprise’s “going global” with the integration of "capital + technology + equipment + engineering service". After completion, the project will meet Uganda's growing demand for electricity in the form of green energy and promote Uganda's industrial and mining development; meanwhile, during project construction and operation, it will create thousands of jobs and promote local socio-economic development.
